Individual Heater Control

v1.0 Updated 2026-08-07

Everything here controls one heater at a time. If you’re setting up the app, building your schedule, or running the whole space at once, start with System Setup & Control.

A quick reminder before you dive in: the system runs in either Schedule Mode or Manual Mode. In Schedule Mode the heaters only come on inside your open hours, so some of the controls below won’t turn on heat outside those hours.

On this page

Two sides, two guests

Each Focal heater covers two guests, one on each side. In the app and on the zone map these show up as a purple side and an orange side, and you can set them independently. So a single heater can run warm for one guest and off for the other.

Reading the lights on the heater

Each side of the heater has four LEDs. The first is a side marker, orange on one side and purple on the other, and it stays lit whenever the heater has power. That’s how you tell the two sides apart, and it matches the purple and orange sides you see in the app.

The other three LEDs are white and show the heat level for that side: three lit is Level 3, two lit is Level 2, one lit is Level 1, and none lit means that side is off.

Adjust one guest’s heat from the app

1
Open the zone map

On the Heater Control page, find the heater on the zone map. Its two sides are marked in purple and orange.

2
Tap the heater

Tap the heater to open its controls.

3
Set the level for the right side

Choose the heat level for the correct guest's side, purple or orange. The change takes effect right away and overrides the automatic level for that side until the next cycle.

At the heater: the pull string

Every heater has a pull string, and it does two different jobs depending on how you pull it. A short tug changes the heat. A hard pull releases the heater so you can slide it on the rail.

Change the heat level

Give the string a short tug to step through the heat levels. Starting from off, the first tug jumps straight to Level 3 (HIGH). Each tug after that steps down one level, from 3 to 2 to 1 and then back to off. The three white LEDs update with each tug, so you can see the new level right on the heater.

The pull string sets the whole heater, both heating spots, to the same level. To run the two sides at different levels, use the app instead.

This only works inside your open hours. If you tug the string outside those hours, the heat can’t be adjusted, and the LEDs flash yellow to tell you it isn’t available.

Slide the heater on the rail

Give the string a hard pull to release the heater from the rail. Once it releases, slide it along the rail to where you want it, then let go of the string and it locks back in place. This is the same motion used when heaters are first installed, so if you’re repositioning several at once, the Install Heaters guide walks through it in more detail.

Guest QR control

Every pendant has a QR code a guest can scan with their phone to control their own side, no app or login needed. Scanning opens a simple control for that side only, and their change overrides the automatic level the same way a change from the app does.

The one limit: the QR page does not allow heat to be adjusted outside of your scheduled hours. Inside those hours a guest can set their side freely.
